Minister for Science and Technology, Govt. of Pakistan visits ECOSF

ISLAMABAD: 09 Jan 2014: His Excellency Mr. Zahid Hamid, Minister for Science and Technology (MoST), Government of Pakistan along with the Secretary MoST Mr. Kamran Ali Qureshi visited the ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) today. The Minister is also the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation. ECOSF is a specialized agency of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO)- an Intergovernmental Organization comprizing 10 member countries, viz., Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The Minister and the Secretary were warmly welcomed by the President ECOSF Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro. The President ECOSF briefed the Honourable visitors on the background as well as establishment of the Foundation. He further highlighted the progress made so far by the Foundation with particular reference to ratification of ECOSF charter by the member states, the budgetary contributions and the activities done, the collaborations being negotiated and the future plans.

The ECOSF President, on behalf of the ECO and ECOSF thanked the Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Science & Technology for their support and cooperation for realization of the plans of ECOSF and hoped that the same cooperation would be continued in future for the benefits of peoples of whole ECO region.

The Minister S&T appreciated the efforts made by the ECOSF so far and expected that the Foundation would play its role in the field of scientific development in ECO region. The options for provision of office accommodation to ECOSF on long term basis were discussed in the meeting. Meanwhile the Minister and the Secretary advised President ECOSF to continue operating from PSF building. The Minister and Secretary also assured the continuation of full support of Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Science and Technology to ECOSF.
