ECOSF and La main a la pate Foundation of France sign MoU for Cooperation for IBSE in ECO Region – 16th April 2016

ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) and La main a la pate (LAMAP) Foundation of France have been collaborating since 2015 for implementation of Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) in ECO member countries. Both the organizations agreed to formalize and institutionalise the collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and was mutually decided that the signing would be done on the occasion of the International Conference for "Improving the Learning of Biology and Related Experimental Sciences at the K-12 School Level" to be held at the University of Chile in Santiago, Chile on 14-15 April 2016; where the presidents of both the institutions were invited. Accordingly, the MoU was signed at the conclusion of the above international conference on 16 April.
On behalf of ECO Science Foundation, its President Prof. Manzoor Hussain Soomro signed the MoU; while, for LAMAP, its President Prof. Daniel Roun signed the MoU. Globally renowned IBSE champions and academicians including the former IAP SEP Chairs Professor Jorge Allende (Chile) and Professor Pierre Léna (France) and the current IAP SEP Chair Dato Lee Yee Cheong (Malaysia) were at the stage. The participants of the conference from across the globe also witnessed the MoU signing.
The MoU aims:
- to formalise the previous activities jointly carried out by the Parties, and provide a framework for new developments;
- to provide professional development opportunities to the educational staff in ECO region comprising of 10 countries: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan; especially teacher educators, with a deeper knowledge and understanding of inquiry-based science education, and how to apply it in schools; and
- to grant permission to ECO educational institutions and authorities to have access to the La main à la pâte teaching and learning resource materials.
