Karachi Science Festival – 2024 Successfully held in Karachi with the Support of ECOSF

A 3-Day event titled “Karachi Youth Stem Learning Festival – 2024” was successfully organized on 18-20 January 2024. The event was jointly organized by the School Education and Literacy Department and UNICEF, Thar Education Alliance and ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF). The event was opened by Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab. In his opening speech, Barrister Wahab emphasizing the crucial need to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in Sindh.
The festival served as a dynamic platform showcasing scientific talent, with participation from over 50 schools across seven districts. Noteworthy was the inclusive approach, incorporating UNICEF's Generation Unlimited (GenU) program to assess and nurture young minds in STEM fields comprehensively. During the festival, students from various government and private schools displayed impressive models on climate change, the greenhouse effect, clean energy, windmills, wireless chargers and more.
Class-X students Tasbiha Khan and Abeera Atif addressed the 2022 floods, discussing ozone layer depletion, the importance of planting trees, and the need to control pollution. The festival also highlighted space science and astronomy, with the Space Science Scope Academy featuring a powerful telescope for students to explore the sky.
The event not only saw students explaining their projects at their school stalls but also witnessing enthusiastic participation from attendees exploring various exhibits. Teachers, such as Nighat Moin from Government Girls Secondary School, and Green Town brought students to enjoy and learn from the festival, reflecting the widespread interest and engagement in science education.
A panel discussion session was also arranged, wherein, renowned educationists, experts, and policymakers shared their thoughts and responded to the queries of the participants.
