ECOSF Strengthening Collaboration with Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (MSRT), Iran

On September 9, 2024, Prof. Seyed Komail Tayebi, President of ECOSF, held meetings with leadership of Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (MSRT). Prof. Tayebi met with Prof. Peyman Salehi, the Vice-Minister for Research, where he briefed him on the current activities and initiatives of ECOSF. Following this, Prof. Tayebi met with Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nabi Shahiki Tash, the newly appointed Vice-Minister for Technology and Innovation. They discussed opportunities to strengthen collaboration in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) within the ECO region.

During the meeting with Dr. Shahiki, Prof. Tayebi emphasized that the ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), as an intergovernmental organization representing its 10 member countries, is dedicated to promoting regional cooperation in STI. ECOSF actively contributes to capacity building, training, and research in critical areas such as Clean Energy, Climate Change, Electric Vehicles, and Science Education. He further highlighted the upcoming Trade and Technology Exhibition and Conference (TTEC), planned for February 2025, which aims to boost regional trade and collaboration in emerging technological sectors. Prof. Tayebi expressed ECOSF’s eagerness to continue working closely with MSRT, particularly in initiatives such as the Capacity Building Program for Technology Parks, Emerging Technologies, and Clean Energy.

Prof. Dr. Shahiki expressed his commitment to building a strong partnership with ECOSF, noting that together, they could create impactful solutions for the ECO region. He also affirmed that MSRT would continue to support ECOSF in promoting STI across the region.

Additionally, Prof. Tayebi met with Dr. Behrouz Abtahi, Director of the International Scientific Cooperation Center at MSRT, where he provided an overview of ECOSF’s activities. The discussion also addressed Iran’s mandatory budgetary contributions to ECOSF and the issue of outstanding arrears.
