President ECOSF calls upon the Iranian Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology at his Office in Tehran - Iran

The President of ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro during his recent visit to Tehran called upon the Deputy Minister (International Cooperation), Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, I.R of Iran, H.E Dr. H. Salar Amoli in his office on 6 September 2014.

Prof. Soomro was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Minister H.E Dr. Amoli on his maiden visit to the Ministry. The President ECOSF at the outset thanked the Deputy Minister for their consistent support to the Foundation including the financial contribution as well as nomination for the post of Executive Director ECOSF.

Prof. Soomro also apprised the Deputy Minister about the activities and international cooperation of the Foundation so far. He especially spoke about the accreditation of ECOSF as observer member of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and the nomination & selection of some experts from ECO member countries to contribute on IPBES Forums. He further shared with the Deputy Minister that ECOSF has signed MoU with Ev-K2-CNR Foundation of Italy for research collaboration in high altitudes of ECO region and an MoU to be signed with International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation Under the Auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC), Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on 8 September 2014 for cooperation in capacity building of ECO region in ST&I policies and planning as well as science education at school level. Dr. Soomro ended his briefing by requesting the Deputy Minister of Iran to further strengthen their support for the Foundation for S&T based economic development in the region.

H.E Dr. Salar Amoli appreciated the efforts for ECO Science Foundation so far and assured Prof. Soomro of full support and cooperation from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of the I.R of Iran in furthering the goals of the Foundation. He informed the President that mandatory budget contribution from Government of Iran has been reflected in the annual budget of their Ministry which would facilitate the transfer of funds to ECOSF. Dr. Amoli spoke quite high of the capabilities of their nominee – Dr. Tayabi for the post of Executive Director of ECOSF. The Deputy Minister was assisted by Mr. Amir Saeed Karami, Deputy of Center of International Scientific Cooperation and Mr. Ali Ghannadi, Expert – Focal Point for ECOSF in the Ministry. At the end, the Deputy Minister presented a book to Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain. Soomro.
