Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro participates in the 2nd International Conference on Biotechnology for Sustainable Development at GC University Lahore

Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro, President ECOSF participated in the "2nd International Conference on Biotechnology for Sustainable Development at GC University Lahore" and made a presentation on "ECO Science Foundation for S&T based Socio Economic Development in the ECO Region" in the plenary session which was attended by over 300 people in the historic Bukhari Auditorium of the GC University, Lahore.
Pakistan Academy of Sciences Secretary General Dr Anwar Naseem chaired the inaugural session of the two-day conference, while Prof Dr Islam Ullah Khan GCU Dean of Science and Technology, Prof Dr Ikram-ul-Haq conference chairman and Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Butt Director Research were also present.
Addressing the conference, Dean Dr Islam Ullah Khan said that biotechnology had the potential to augment food security by developing novel bio-pesticides and flooding-tolerant food crop varieties via genetic engineering. He said that advances in biotechnology research could help also in increased health standards and longer lives by producing new preventive and curative pharmaceuticals.
President mainly introduced the ECOSF and encouraged participants to interact with their counter parts in other ECO member countries for research collaboration. He also highlighted the importance of Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE), ownership of the concept by Inter Academy Panel (IAP) and its implementation in ECO Region with the partnership ofLa main a la pait Foundation France, Science Education Program (SEP) of IAP and International Science Technology and Innovation Centre for South South Cooperation under the Auspicious of UNESCO (ISTIC) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.It is pertinent to mention that Prof. Manzoor Soomro is a member of the Global council of SEP-IAP and contribute worldwide this forum.
