ECOSF participated in the launch event of National Action Plan and Investment Prospectus on Sustainable Energy for All

UNDP Pakistan launched the National Action Plan (NAP) and Investment Prospectus (IP) on Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) in collaboration with the Planning Commission in Islamabad on December 17, 2019. The event highlighted the importance of access to sustainable energy for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The launch event attracted a large number of energy experts, policy makers, representatives of development partners and government officials. On behalf of ECOSF, Engr. Khalil Raza participated in the event.
Mr. Ignacio Resident Representative of UNDP Pakistan in his remarks shared that UNDP has been supporting the government in the development of the National Action Plan on SEforALL, stated. The National Action Plan will provide the opportunity to achieve the SDG on Affordable and Clean Energy, along with opportunities for partnerships and collaboration with the international private sector, as well as effective governance of climate finance, he further added
SEforALL initiative is an important component of SDGs, and provides an all-encompassing approach linking energy access to other goals. SEforALL National Action Plan provides a comprehensive and holistic long-term vision, aligned with National Vision 2025, and national policies notified from time to time.
The National Action Plan lays down pathways and determined interventions to provide affordable and clean energy for all and promote efficient use of energy to achieve sustainable economic development by 2030 with investment opportunities of over US$ 66 billion. Needless to mention that effective implementation of SEforAll will be a key for Pakistan in its mission to tackle climate change, promote sustainable industries, boost exports and create green jobs. It is important to mention that Engr. Khalil Raza played a key role as one of the co-authors this report during the development of this action plan in 2015-16.
Dr. Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission underlined the significance of sustainable energy for socio-economic development of the country. SEforALL provides a great opportunity to Pakistan to transform its energy systems by improving energy efficiency and incorporating more renewable energy into its mix by 2030, he added.
Dr. Sardar Mohazzam, Managing Director of National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) shared the approach of National Action Plan and Investment Prospectus. Mr. Inayat Ullah Qureshi, Chief of Energy Wing at Planning Commission, in his closing remarks at the launch, expressed government’s commitment to achieve sustainable energy goals for poverty reduction, improvement of human capital and quality of life.
