It gives me an immense pleasure to congratulate the engineering community on World Engineering Day on March 4th, 2021. The World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2019. It is celebrated worldwide on 4th March of each year since 2020. This year the theme of this day is "Engineering for a Healthy Planet"
The day offers an opportunity to highlight engineers and engineering’s achievements in our modern world and improve public understanding of how engineering and technology are central to modern life and for sustainable development. Engineers have always played a critical role in the development of this world, and their innovations and inventions have led to significant technological advancements, which have continuously improved our lives.
Today, ECO region faces enormous challenges and it will be extremely difficult for us to improve our lives, feed our growing populations, protect our children and climate, if we do not invest in our youth and build future generation of engineering leaders to find resource efficient, cheaper and smarter ways of industrial development for socio-economic growth.
I believe engineering professionals of the ECO region have all the potential to create economic and business opportunity to maintain prosperity of the region in today’s competitive global economy. Our future economic standing and development of our society solely depends on our ability to nurture future generation of engineers and technologists.
Therefore, we have to inspire our youth to embark on a career in engineering and technology if we are to meet the challenges of the future. I congratulate UNESCO and World Federation of Engineering Organizations for celebrating this day and highlighting critical role of engineers who have immensely contributed to the infrastructure and technological development.
