President ECOSF pays a visit to Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and its Institutes in Tashkent and Samarkand on 5-7 September, 2017
President ECOSF Professor Manzoor Hussain Soomro paid a visit to the Academy of Sciences, Republic of Uzbekistan and its research institutions on 5-7 September 2017. The President ECOSF was warmly welcomed on 5th September at the Presidium of the Academy by the First Vice President Professor Ibrokhim Y. Abdurakhmonov, who is also the Director of the Center of Genomics and Bioinformatics. He was flanked by the Director of Institute of the Chemistry of Plant Substances, named after Acad. S. Yunusov, Professor Shomansur Sh. Sagdullaev. Vice President Abdurakhmonov after welcoming remarks briefed the President ECOSF about the Academy, its structure and research institutions. He informed that the Academy has a President, three Vice Presidents (3 Divisions- Life Sciences & Chemistry, Physics & Maths and Humanities) and 31 thematic/ discipline research institutes across the country. The Academy also has 4 Natural History Museums across the country. The Life Sciences and Chemistry Institutes focus on Pharmaceuticals, Drug Development and Agriculture; Nano and Biotechnology as well as Genetic Engineering and Bioinformatics.
Afterwards, the President ECOSF briefed the hosts about the role of ECO, establishment of ECOSF and about the aims & objectives and Programs of the Foundation for promotion of Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation in the ECO member states. He invited the Academy to join hands with ECOSF and participate in its various programs such as; IBSE, Research funding, Travel Grants and Engineering Qualification Standardization and Accreditation etc. He also informed the hosts that ECOSF works with numerous international collaborators and partners including UNESCO, IDB, ISTIC, ISTC and KISTEP etc.
In response, the Academy expressed its pleasure in knowing firsthand about ECOSF and its programs and assured of cooperation in various fields. The Academy also invited President Soomro to visit its various institutions and arranged his visit on 6 September to its Institute of Archaeology as well as some historical places in Samarkand. Dr. Soomro appreciated the warm cultural hospitality of the Academy and thanked them for coordinating the visit to Samarkand.
