ECOSF in Partnership with UISMS hosted a Webinar on Development of Mathematics and the Resilience of Mathematicians in Tackling Profound Challenges

In a collaborative effort to promote the understanding and appreciation of Mathematics and Science, the ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) and the Union of Iranian Societies of Mathematical Sciences (UIMS) organized a webinar as part of its ongoing lecture series. Prof. Dr. Nazeer Muhammad, Assistant Professor at Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology moderated the webinar and provided an engaging environment for intellectual exchange and exploration on the important role of mathematics.

The webinar was entitled "Development of Mathematics and the Resilience of Mathematicians in Tackling Profound Challenges," which took place on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 providing participants with an insightful journey into the fascinating world of Mathematics.

Dr. Imran Anwar, the esteemed Chair and Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in Pakistan led the session as the invited guest speaker. His expertise and passion for the subject energized the virtual space as he delved into the historical development of Mathematics emphasizing the significant roles played by various eras and applications of mathematics in addressing many challenges.

The lecture began with an exploration of the Babylonian era showcasing the early roots of mathematical concepts. Dr. Anwar then navigated through the influence of Religious Rituals, shedding light on the integration of Mathematics into cultural practices. The contributions of Greek Mathematicians and their enduring impact on the subject were highlighted along with insights into Greek Time Capsules and the Roman Era - notably their role in developing the Cypher. Later, Dr. Imran outlined the Middle Ages where the amalgamation of Algebra and contributions from Arab scholars became pivotal.

Dr. Imran Anwar concluded the lecture by examining the evolution of Mathematics into the realm of modern mathematical tools, showcasing the resilience of mathematicians throughout history in confronting profound challenges. Participants left with a deeper understanding of the rich history of Mathematics and the enduring dedication of mathematicians in shaping our world.
