PSF Chairman Attends Consultative Meeting on IPBES in Tehran on 10 -12 March 201

Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) Chairman Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro participated in the regional capacity-building workshop and consultative meeting on Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) held on 10 -12 March 2012 in Tehran- Islamic Republic of Iran.

Department of Environment of Islamic Republic of Iran in collaboration with the ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ECO-IEST), with support from UNEP, and financial support from the Government of Norway convened and hosted this regional gathering to provide information on the IPBES process so far, present the agenda and documents for the second session of the plenary meeting on IPBES and facilitate an exchange of views on these among governmental stakeholders.

The second session of the plenary meeting to determine the modalities and institutional arrangements for IPBES will be held in Panama City from 16 to 21 April 2012.

Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro, Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation, Mr. Abdul Munaf Qaimkhani, DIG-Forest, Ministry of National Disaster Management and Mr. Muhammad Samar Hussain Khan, Assistant Secretary Wildlife, Ministry of National Disaster Management represented Pakistan in the meeting. Dr. Soomro gave a presentation on Trans-boundary Movement of Biological Specimens and Species In Pakistan, National Conservation Strategy, National Related Legislation, general policies, programs and main measures in this regard. Pakistan and Kazakhstan also proposed a World Network of Scientific Experts on Biodiversity.

Earlier, the PSF Chairman also participated in a meeting on Trans-Boundary Movement of Biological Specimens and Species held in Tehran on March 9, 2012 organized by the Economic Cooperation Organization Secretariat.
